Naviko started as a small hobby project by a single person helping friends and family traveling in Japan, doing road trips and chasing Japanese powder snow on a small budget. Typical problems included:
- A convenient guest house had no website, not available on any booking sites, just an entry on Google Maps
- A local bus operator website said it starts operation on a specific date, but no info on the actual bus stop
- A ski resort closed on specific days without posting any information online
- Accommodation was bookable via major booking website, but offered no meal plan. Upon the arrival we learned that meals were available, but it was too late too book
- Major booking website allowed to book a child for free, but it meant the child had no bed and no meals
Japan can still be surprisingly low-tech in these situations. Often the solution was to use the phone. And that is basically what Naviko is.
Not a travel agency, just a small independent project helping travelers with practical local support, especially around snow trips and regional travel in Japan.
Typical requests include:
- Calling hotels, ryokans or ski lodges
- Checking booking details or cancellation rules
- Helping understand transport or luggage forwarding options
- Figuring out confusing Japanese websites or instructions
- General “can someone local check this?” situations
The goal is simple: make Japan travel feel a little less stressful.
